Our Story

Sure, everyone thinks their mom’s food is the best. But, our mom’s food really is the best! If she wasn’t cooking for us, she always seemed to be cooking for a dinner party or the temple. When we were in college, she mailed us food packed in dry ice!

When we were growing up, she was always a sought after guest at dinner parties because it meant she would bring a dish to share with her friends. While our friends loved her food, they would never eat at Indian restaurants. In our family we often talked about changing that by making a quick service Indian restaurant that would make it easy, fast, and convenient to share mom’s recipes.

So when we decided to bring Indian food to people in a new way, we had to look no further than our mom. We spent months in the kitchen with her, taking notes and translating recipes from “a little of this and that” so that we could bring you fresh, homestyle Indian food, served fast. A recent trip to India had us back in the kitchen with mom working on new recipes. Keep a look out for our rotating specials and secret menu.

Our Story

Naanstop is born

After many years of school and a few years of working, we realized that finance and engineering were not our passions. Neal left working for a hedge fund and took a job with a sandwich shop in Chicago to learn how to run a restaurant. Meanwhile, Samir learned the academic side and worked on the business plan while studying for his MBA. We spent many weekends and vacations in the kitchen with mom, learning how to make our favorite dishes so we could share them with you.

In January 2011, we opened NaanStop as a food truck in Los Angeles. It was the first step towards our dream of owning a restaurant. After running the truck for a year, we wanted to come back home to the South and live closer to our family. That’s why we moved to Atlanta and in August 2012 opened our first location in Downtown Atlanta.
